Updated In February, 2012 - Once you have completely mastered the basic and intermediate 2-7 Single Draw strategies, it is time to get acquainted with advanced strategy techniques. Here are some advanced poker strategies that will help you along the way to increasing your winnings. Below you will find links to some of our other 2-7 Single Draw strategy articles.
- Practice your game as much as possible, especially before tournament action. Many people at an advanced level in their poker playing careers will fall victim to believing that they are infallible. Practice often and you'll hone your skills so that you can become a more profitable 27 single draw player – a player who consistently takes home large pots.
- Do Fold More Often – It is perfectly acceptable to not play each and every hand dealt to you. Remember, you are here because you WANT to play the game, not to mindlessly give away chips. Why should you stay in if your hand that was dealt isn’t that great, and you just want to be part of the action? If you take this mindset, yes you will certainly play more, but you will NOT be winning more.
- Do not bluff often – Many poker players understand that bluffing is indeed part of 27 single draw strategy, but many do not understand how to bluff. Bluffing will only work when playing against certain people and only in certain situations. For example, if you up against a player at your table who is known to always call the final bet, it will be impractical to bluff that player.
- Do not stay in because you are already in – just because you have invested a lot of your money into a hand of 27 single draw doesn’t mean you have to ride it out. If you see that your hand will not win, or that you are bluffing for the sake of bluffing—fold. Obviously, there may be some cases when a pot will warrant a call, but why stay in if you know that you are going to lose the hand? Remember, the money that you have already put into the pot is no longer yours. You will not get the money back especially if you play the hand until the last player calls.
- Never call at the end of a hand for “honesty’s sake” – How many times have you heard this at a poker table when one player will look at the player that just raised the bet and say, “I am going to keep you honest,” and then followed by calling the hand? It might be worth it to see what that player was holding if you are uncertain and you are gathering information that might help you later on in the game. If you honestly think that a player has the hand that he is “betting large” on, why would you want to give them more of your money?
